Once the wood is the right size glue the inward facing side and then press it into place. Hold until the glue starts to dry. Then scuff the cup portion of the hinge with sandpaper where it will contact the adhesive. Apply petroleum jelly to the movable portions of the hinge to protect them from the glue.

Hinge slots or mortises are unsightly gaps left behind when doors are removed from doorways. Inspect the door hinge and look for where it is loose or hangs off of the door or doorjamb. This may include covering over any wood stains left by the hinge. Inspect the hinge to see if it is missing the pin which is the long metal rod that holds the two halves of.

If you ve recently removed a door from its frame to replace it with another door that will use hinges in different locations or that will hang on the other side of the frame or if you don t plan to fill the space with another door you ll need to fill in the cutouts you made in the door frame when you first installed the hinges. Apply it liberally and use the knife to flatten it as best as you can with the putty knife. Cover the gaps left in the frame or door.

Allow to dry according to the directions on the spackle for me it was about 2 hours.
